We are the English Community of the Canonesses of the Holy Sepulchre, a part of an Ancient Order which follows the Rule of Saint Augustine.
Our English Community was founded by Susan Hawley in 1642. At that time Catholic education was not possible for girls in England because of the Penal Laws, so Susan Hawley went to the Low Countries. The Order of the English Canonesses of the Holy Sepulchre was founded in Liège in 1642.
The Community has been in England since 1794.
