Saint Augustine of Hippo (354 - 430)
The
Order of the Holy Sepulchre adopted the rule of St Augustine in 1114AD
– binding themselves to live the Common Life together, after the
example of the early church in Jerusalem (Acts 4:32)

"People travel to wonder at the height of mountains,
at the huge waves of the sea,
at the long courses of rivers,
at the vast compass of the ocean,
at the circular motion of the stars....
and they pass by themselves without wondering."
"Find out how much God has given you
and from it take what you need;
the remainder is needed by others."
"Pray as though everything depended on God.
Work as though everything depended on you."
