More about Melbourne

  Our Community group lives on one of the disadvantaged estates in Chelmsford, where the personal and social challenges of the area over many decades are multiple and complex.

We live our Community life in vital connection to the life of the estate, and bring its needs, hopes and aspirations to our personal and Community prayer each day.

We are thus able to live our charism amongst people in a very ordinary day to day way, bringing ‘the Church to the people’ rather than waiting for ‘the people to come to the Church’.  Together with our parish Community and the other local Christian Churches we try to bring an ecumenical witness to the many people here who have little positive experience of Church.

Our focus on the Paschal Mystery has particular resonance on our estate  as people struggle through their many Good Fridays, live their daily waiting Holy Saturdays and rejoice in the occasional  glimpses and hopes of Easter Sunday.

We are engaged in many varied  works in our parish, in the immediate area and in Chelmsford – , in diverse parish ministries , working with local schools on particular projects, hosting a Toddler group, working with many collaborators to provide Homework support for local children after school twice a week, helping non- English speakers to gain greater confidence and fluency, working with older people, running a basic cookery course, working in the prison... and trying to respond to individual needs with the compassion and hope of the Risen Lord.
