More about East London
Three Sisters had moved to Beckton in August 2006 and have now moved to Custom House, just a few miles away. Custom House, together with Beckton and North Woolwich, forms the Catholic Parish of the Royal Docks. We are involved in the liturgical life of the Parish in various ways. Since moving to Custom House we have been using St Anne’s Church for Morning and Evening Prayer together with the Sisters of the Holy Family of the Needy, from Nigeria, who have recently moved into the Parish.
Catherine, who is very creative in art and craft, is involved, together with an art teacher, in setting up a group for the elderly. This provides them with the opportunity to meet together and socialise and to learn new skills. In addition, she volunteers once a week with a group of handicapped people in a supportive and befriending role.
Christina, who has experience in the field of spiritual direction, is involved in the spiritual care of people with mental health problems. There is an initiative led by the East London Foundation Trust, pioneering work in this field. Having successfully completed a course entitled “Certificate in Spiritual, Religious and Cultural Care, she is now the Christian Co-ordinator for the Department situated in the Newham Centre for Mental Health. Christina is also a voluntary literacy helper in the local Catholic primary school.
Teresa Ann is very involved with refugees and asylum seekers. In the parish she sings in the choir and helps to run a prayer group.
