More about Colchester

Presently there are 10 Sisters living in Colchester. Each day we pray Morning and Evening Prayer  in our own prayer space. Other people are always very welcome to join us.

The Sisters in Colchester are known within 3 different parishes, St James the Less, St. John Payne, Greenstead and the Catholic Chaplaincy at the University of Essex. Some of us are available for counselling, for spiritual guidance and leading retreat days. Initiatives this year have been a week of accompanied prayer in our house,  ‘prayer walks’ around the Centre of Colchester and a week of accompanied prayer for students and staff at the University of Essex. We also collaborate with a number of local spiritual initiatives.

An area of real need in the town is support for the hungry and homeless. Some of the Community give regular help at the night shelter and others are also involved with soup runs or other assistance.

We try to be an open, hospitable presence in our local community. Over the past year we have had a few afternoons when our house has been open to neighbours, parishioners and other friends and contacts, local and not so local. This has helped to bring together people who have been connected with us in the past and those new friends we have made in this area.
